Howard Eige
My paintings are a lyrical, sometimes operatic, abstract amalgam of all that I see and love and a tribute to the earth and nature and the universe and the elemental force that exists before words and knowledge. The paintings are an exploration of the state of consciousness in the natural world.
I paint the truth that I see around me. The shapes in my paintings can be seen in reality. They are just rearranged, re-imaged, with some parts looming into the foreground. In this sense, I am a landscape painter or a realist.
These impressions and feelings and observations of concrete reality are expressed formally in each painting through color, line, space, texture. I invent new layering and glazing techniques for each painting with hundreds of colors. I am continually developing a new formalist language to create a new kind of picture space and a new kind of light on the canvas.
The result is a multidimensional world, a parallel universe of unique color relationships and elements, both tangible and airy, working together to bring a painting to life.
